Resignation Letter – Don’t Include These Details

Resignation is not easy. Whatever the reason, it only denotes one thing-leaving one company, and hopefully moving into another with better opportunity. Your co-workers will be left behind. Colleagues whom you’ve come to know and may be shared your dreams.

Usually, there are only two reasons in resigning from the company. You are either moving in to a greener pasture, or you just simply can not deal with your current environment anymore. Which ever it is, you will have to write your letter of resignation.

Accepting a job from another company is an idyllic basis for resignation. However, if you are on a different situation; wherein you can not continue working on your current company, then that is a pity. You may be pissed off at your co-worker for sabotaging your work or fuming at your boss for not giving you an opportunity to prove your worth. No matter how mad you are, you must remain professional. Show some patience.

Do not write about your sentiments. If you have any of these, you should have addressed it earlier. This is not the time to tackle the matter.

Do not point fingers at your co-workers. They may be instrumental on your decision to resign, but it is not appropriate to throw in the last pack of mud upon your exit to the company.

Do not be rude and aggressive on your letter. It is a written formal document that can and may be used against you. So refrain from doing so.

Do not convey sadness on your letter. It is your own decision to resign. Nobody forced you.

Do not use your resignation letter as an instrument for asking a wage increase. It is unprofessional. And if ever you are given a salary increase; does it answer you concerns? Is it the end all and be all behind you resignation?

Do not use your resignation letter as bait for seeking salary increase. Don’t compromise your credibility. You do not want to give out the impression as if you are going to turn your back on the resignation at the first sign of increase in salary. Anyway, should you accept the salary increase; does it really solve the problem? Will you be happy to continue on that basis alone? Or there are other issues which will remain unsatisfied? Office politics may backfire. You do not want to hear your co-workers gossiping that you managed to get a salary increase by a threat of resignation.

Do not put the company in bad light. You’ll never know when a future employer may call in for a character reference.

Do not boost up your capability. You may become a loss to the company, but you do not have to rub it in.

You should not ask for reconsideration. You are leaving the company for several reasons. Why would you turn your back and imply that you want to come back? It defeats the purpose of resignation.

Avoid these humiliating blunders in your resignation letter. You may be leaving the company on a negative note, but you should remain positive on your letter. Make it simple and direct. State your reasons, at the same time extend your gratitude. Do not burn bridges. Be a class act to the very end.
