As you eat less than you really require for good nutrition, your body says “There’s a food shortage. I’ve got to protect myself because I don’t know when the famine will end.” So your body starts consuming muscle. It will save the fat for later. That’s because fat is for an extended emergency.
Now here’s where your body really fools you. Because your muscle mass is less, but your fat mass is about the same, your metabolism goes down. That means that in order to continue to lose weight you have to eat less and less.
You can lose weight. There are ways to do it, but it’s not by starving yourself on small portion, low calorie, low carb eating plans.
