From here, a degree in BEng should be considered. However, getting a good pass in an MEng degree helps progression to Chartered Engineering faster and less protracted a path.

Ideally, whichever degree is taken will be accredited by the IET and, will ideally have practical training. This training should take place within an industrial setting, which in itself should also be well structured and regulated.

Having these qualifications behind you will not be enough to secure that electrical engineering job; a period of reaching Initial Professional Development (IPD), will be required. IPD ensures a candidate in the field has not only responsible experience, but has also undergone crucial and necessary training. In some cases, degrees offering practical experience can contribute to this.

Following graduation too, gaining Chartered accreditation (CENG) will be required. This will take a minimum of 4 years to achieve, and requires candidates to become a Member of the Institution, (MIET or MIEE). Though a protracted route, and one which takes a great deal of determination and skill, reaching these milestones can lead to successful and lucrative career.
