Did you know there’s actually kind of a science to toy sales? Though a store may be advertising that they’re having a sale, you don’t always know if you’re really paying any less than what they would normally charge.

All they have to do is switch prices and increase them on items and then offer you a “sale” price and then when you see the word sale you automatically think that means you’re saving money, right? Sometimes toy sales are legit and other times it’s just a sneaky way for retailers to get you to spend your hard earned cash. It’s not always easy to know where the best toy sales are, but there are a few different ways that you can find out.

A newspaper subscription is a great start. Since the paper has a section for advertisements you are able to see all the different stores that are offering a toy you are interested in, along with the sale prices they are advertising. When you monitor these ads you can also see who is offering great deals, and what the standard prices are on some items.

While there is a belief that a toy store will give an individual a better price because these toys are their specialty, that isn’t always the case. Sometimes in the toy store you will end up paying more money than you would at a bigger discount department store. That concept brings us to the next way to save.

In general you will find that most major department stores such as Kmart, Target and Wal-mart as a rule will have good deals on their toys. They are able to do this because with a larger selection they can discount any of their toys at anytime.

All three of these stores will usually put an ad in the newspaper on a weekly basis. But if you don’t have a paper subscription, you can still get their ads right from the store. That way you can check out any toy sale that they may be having at the time.

For the two months that lead up to Christmas, most stores will begin having toy sales. As a rule these are legitimate sales that are designed to bring people into the location. With the hottest toys of the season on sale, the stores realize by cutting their prices many customers will pick up additional toys. The additional sales will result in more money being spent in their general location.

Remember that not every toy sale is really a valid sale at all. Take the time to look around online and check on the pricing of identical items. This is by far the fastest and most effective way to do comparison shopping. Many online toys have a variance in price that can be as high as $20 or more. It pays to use online shopping as a valuable tool when you are seeking out the best toy sales.
