The most common form of yeast infection is vaginal and it is therefore seen as a woman’s health issue but men can get yeast infections too. A penile yeast infection in fact has a lot in common with a vaginal infection, including why they happen and what to do about them. Medicated treatments come in several forms including pills and lotions that are anti-fungal.

On everyone is a fungus called Candida Albicans, and it lives on us in small numbers benignly. It is kept at small levels by the healthy bacteria also there. If an imbalance happens (which can occur due to several factors) the fungus can overgrow and that can lead to a yeast infection.

A lot of men may not even realize they have a yeast infection if they do because they expect it to be a female problem. Also a yeast infection is actually a little harder to identify in a man than a woman, after all we are built differently! Causes of it in men tend to be diabetes (yeast feeds on sugar), and unprotected sex with a infected female partner. It is important to abstain from sex while you or your partner has an infection otherwise it will become a cycle of passing it back and forth between you.

Other causes include alcohol, peanuts, antibiotics, barley, wheat and corn products, and a low immune system. Antibiotics kill all bacteria, good and bad and so with the good bacteria gone the fungus can overgrow into a yeast infection. Wheat, barley and corn can have fungus and molds in them and the others can waken the immune system and kill good bacteria with the acidity they cause in your body.

Symptoms to be wary of as they may indicate a more severe infection or even potentially a systemic infection are constipation, diarrhea, lack of energy, flaky itching skin, inability to perform sexually, prostrate problems, indigestion and bloating. Visit a doctor straight away.
